The movie was critically acclaimed as an animated film worthy of adult curiosity, with many adult-oriented jokes and themes, however an easy enough plot and humor to appeal to youngsters. It made notable use of pop music—the soundtrack contains music by Smash Mouth, Eels, Joan Jett, The Proclaimers, Jason Wade, the Baha Men, and Rufus Wainwright. Every joke lands with a punch, Lord Farquaad is the best villain within the sequence by far and the ending has a robust, necessary message about bodily magnificence. It’s not the best movie ever made, however “Shrek” is so good, you’ll be sad when it’s ogre. As a film judged by itself deserves, “Shrek the Third” is boring and trite.
