The film was devoted to Justin Wright (1981–2008), a Pixar animator who had labored on Ratatouille and died of a coronary heart attack before the WALL-E launch. Burtt saw a hand-cranked electrical generator while watching Island within the Sky, and bought an identical, unpacked system from 1950 on eBay to make use of for WALL-E moving around. Burtt also used a car self-starter for when WALL-E goes quick, and the sound of automobiles being wrecked at a demolition derby supplied for WALL-E's compressing trash in his physique. The Macintosh computer chime was used to signify when WALL-E has fully recharged his battery. Burtt was only capable of providing neutral or masculine voices, so Pixar employee Elissa Knight was requested to provide her voice for Burtt to electronically modify.
